| The mission of The Moses Cone ~ Wesley Long Community Health Foundation is to invest in programs and organizations that measurably improve the health of people in the geographic area served by the Moses Cone Health System. Our direction is set by a board whose makeup is representative of the community we serve. We are part of the community, and we are part of Moses Cone Health System.
While the Foundation's assets are considerable, there are more needs than we can meet. We must set priorities and invest accordingly.
In 2009, the Foundation will sponsor research to help us determine how best to focus our resources and set our priorities. We will examine several areas recognized as community health concerns by the Guilford County Health Department and the Moses Cone Health System, including obesity and sexually transmitted diseases, to name just two. Our researchers will survey the country for successful interventions in these and other areas. We will then work with local organizations to strengthen our community's response to the many complex health issues we face.
Because our resources are limited, we want to be sure we know which of the programs we support are working and which needs to be changed, refocused, or abandoned. We will partner with grantees and external consultants to make certain that investments of volunteer and staff time and Foundation resources are discernibly improving health.
Our community is fortunate to have many partners and significant assets dedicated to improving health. Our Foundation is but a small element in a large, complex health care system. We look forward to continuing our work and our collaborations to Make Good Health Happen here in our community.
